60 YEARS OF THE COMPANY

 FRANZ KRAINER

The establishment of the company extends back to the year 1959. At the time, Franz Krainer senior with the collaboration of his wife Margit had set up a sales and production facility in Leibnitz. The first branch was established as early as in 1964 and at the end of the 1960s there were the first sales outside of Styria. In 1969, the strong demand required the first phase of expansion of the present-day site in Wagna near Leibnitz, in the south of Styria. Construction work was swiftly completed and operations were moved to the new building in 1970.

CONSTANT CORPORATE GROWTH

The constant growth and the continuous increase in satisfied customers required the second phase of expansion in 1977 and the third phase in the mid-1980s. From this point in time onwards, around 5,000 tons of meat and sausage specialities are provided every year on an area of more than 12,500 m² throughout Austria.

THE COMPANY TAKEOVER

Since 1994, this successful family-run business has been managed by Franz Krainer junior in the second generation. He learned the trade of a butcher in his parents' company in 1978 and after qualifying as a journeyman butcher and as a master butcher completed his training as a food technician in 1985. Franz Krainer employs around 130 staff today. Since 1991, the marketing of the company's products has also been done outside of Austria. In Maribor/Slovenia, there is a subsidiary that is listed throughout the country with all renowned food retail chains. There are general agencies as well as supply and trading relationships to Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia.

THE COMPANY TODAY

The company also includes a snack bar and a sales outlet with a comprehensive catering department at the headquarters in Wagna.

In the building of the former abattoir and in a new hall, maturing and air-conditioning rooms with an annual capacity of more than 1,000 t have been put into operation. This expansion in capacity makes F. Krainer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GesmbH one of the most renowned producers of raw and long-life products in Austria.

High-quality, air-dried meat specialities such as Styrian ham bacon, loin bacon, osso collo as well as cooked ham specialities are firmly linked to the Krainer name at home and abroad.
 

TRADING PARTNER AND
CONTRACT MANUFACTURER

Today, with its more than 50 years of experience, the company is an important partner of the Austrian and foreign food retail sector and of sales in the HoReCA area. However, Krainer also stands for contract manufacturing and is a producer of some important own brands such as "A echter Steirer" ("A real Styrian") and "100% Steirisch" ("100% Styrian").

 

At Franz Krainer, great importance is attached to many traditional methods of craftsmanship such as salting, curing and smoking that are necessary for the production of exquisite specialities. The careful craftsmanship and a superbly equipped fleet of machinery at EU level are the guarantee for a safe and rational way of working. Krainer is one of the largest and most modern firms in Austria. For Franz Krainer, it is a daily challenge to harmoniously combine innovative production methods with traditional methods of craftsmanship and thus to safeguard the exquisite quality of Krainer specialities. An important prerequisite for this is compliance with the high standard of hygiene even with a weekly production of more than 90 tons.

The annual IFS certification confirms the high standard of quality. Incidentally, Krainer is also certified organic and an AMA licence partner for some products in Austria.

This high level of quality and responsible company management is guaranteed by a professional quality management and permanent training of all employees and has been confirmed in all audits of renowned food retail chains at home and abroad.
